Rules & Regulations

Students should be at the studio at least 10 minutes before their class begins, to warm up. This is especially crucial to prevent injury, and with advanced students it is advisable to allow more time as their technical content is more demanding. To prevent congestion in the changing area, students may warm up at the back of the studio as long as they do not talk and distract the class in progress.

Students are expected to behave in a polite and friendly manner, showing respect and tolerance to their teachers and peers.

Uniform must be worn at all time.

Dance Shoes should not be worn outside the building and only put on inside, to avoid walking dust and dirt in to their dancing space.

From Primary ballet upwards -Hair for ballet must be worn in a secure bun- Hairpins and a net are recommended instead of wrapping elastics around the bun. When the hair comes loose it is not only very distracting for the student but also wastes time, because the teacher has to stop the class to deal with it.

Hair for Modern, Contemporary and Musical Theatre and Baby & Pre Primary Ballet is advised to be worn away from the face and preferably in a ponytail, unless the teacher stipulates otherwise.

No Watches and jewellery (stud earrings are acceptable for class) may be worn to avoid injury and loss.

The School is not responsible for loss or damage to personal items so it is advisable to leave valuables at home and label clothes and shoes well.

It is the School’s decision alone whether a student is considered “ ready” for examinations. This decision is always taken with the best interest of the student in mind.

Sharing photographs and films of our activities can help us celebrate the successes and achievements of our young people, provide a record of our activities and raise awareness of our organisation. Any material is always carefully selected, and considerate of the welfare of our young people.

(Our teachers may sometimes use photography and filming as a teaching aid.)

These are the ways photographs or videos may be used.

  1. within Dance Works buildings for display purposes

  3. on the Dance Works’s website
